Our garden

Our garden is both a labour of love and a work in progress. Each year we focus on a different part of the garden and do a general tidy up so it at least looks presentable.

Last year we laid a new lawn ready for Milo to play on this summer, which he enjoyed very much. I also lovingly painted the fences and back gate while heavily pregnant, which turned out to be a bit of a waste of time as the bad weather in winter pretty much destroyed the fences to the point where they cannot be repaired and need replacing.

This year we have made a sofa out of pallets, created and planted a veg patch and grown a variety of vegetables. We are incredibly happy with the crop of veggies we have had.

Next year we have a grand plan to build a garden shed out of recycled materials possibly pallets. I have been inspired thanks to Georges amazing spaces and shed of the year. We also plan on creating a vegetable patch for Milo. I have already eagerly bought him a garden kit and seeds for next year. I would also love to have a patio tree, unfortunately I have a small terraced garden which means there is not enough room for a fully grown tree but a patio tree will look just as lovely. Oh and we shall  also be replacing the fences and painting them.

My idea of Homely: Top ten list

1) A fruit bowl with fresh fruit in it always smells great and looks good

2) flowers/plants/herbs. Its a really simple way of adding life and a bit of greenery, which always makes a house feel lived in and the smells beat candles any day
.
3) Books be it cook books, children's books or fiction books displayed and used will instantly give a lived in feel.

4) Photos of friends, family or your travels around the world will always break up a plain wall. They can also be a great conversation starter.

5) Mementos out on display

6) Soft furnishings. Different textures and colours add interest to a room and immediately give a lived in feel.

7) art work, weither its your own your children's or bought in Ikea creates focal points and brightens up walls

8) Colour be it in furnishings or on the walls, cheers up a house instantly.

9) Rugs, they can break up a boring room and add warmth.

10) Ornaments

Framed butterfly mementos

I love nothing more than having personal mementos on display and thanks to the Orchard@Tesco's I received a £5 of voucher to spend on any of their home ware products so I chose a lovely grey picture frame to display some mementos.

I've been wanting to frame some mementos from a trip I took with my husband to Las Vegas for a while, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to use them. It is really simple to display mementos all you need is a picture frame, paper or card, scissors and some glue.

I previously cut the butterfly shapes with a Martha Stewart punch which I had lying around. You can purchase these at any craft store or websites. I arranged the shapes onto paper and played around with the layout until I was happy. When I was finally happy with the layout I stuck them down onto some paper with some glue and put the paper into the frame. To get the correct size of the paper remove the back of the frame and draw round it using it as a template and then cut out.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to House2Home. I'm Leigh and I live in Stoke-on-Trent with my husband Matt and son Milo. My blog is dedicated to the journey my husband and I take on transforming our house into a home through our love off making and creating things. I shall be sharing our DIY projects, crafts and recipes, with hints and tips on how to make them. I hope you enjoy reading about our projects as much as we enjoy making them.
